Four Seasons in Java

After spending two decades in prison, Pertiwi returns to her hometown. But her return is met with rejection. Her family turns away from her, the villagers remain haunted by memories of the past, while the men who once took away her freedom now hold power over the village. In a village shrouded in silence and fear, Pertiwi finds others who, like her, have been cast aside by society. When the electricity goes out and discarded electronic devices suddenly begin to come to life, something strange starts to follow in her footsteps. Gradually, Pertiwi realizes that the violence that once changed her life has never truly ended. She must confront the wounds of her past and break the cycle of violence that continues to be passed down—a journey to rediscover the meaning of home, family, and peace.

Bali International Cinema Festival

Date | Time | Location

30 Oct 2026 – 1 Nov 2026 | 13:00, 20:00 | COCA Theatre

About the Programme

The Bali International Cinema Festival (BICIF) grew from the curatorial spirit of Ubud: Cinecurious , a community-based film screening and discussion initiative founded by the late John Badalu in collaboration with Titik Dua Ubud. Building on this foundation and the longstanding work of Silurbarong.co in developing independent cinema and visual culture in Bali, BICIF aims to expand these efforts into an annual international film festival rooted in social, cultural, and ecological awareness. Through film screenings, discussions, workshops, and creative collaborations, BICIF envisions cinema as more than entertainment, a platform for reflection, advocacy, and connection between stories, communities, and perspectives.
